Mens Jewelry in Pop Culture

Mens jewelry is certainly in fashion and demand at this point, and you need only look at media and pop culture in order to see how this trend is being reflected. From popular cult television shows to video games and films, the association between men and fine jewelry has never been more obvious or ubiquitous.

Earrings and necklaces aren’t the only kinds of mens jewelry we see in pop culture and media. The most common pieces we see are wedding rings and watches. A male character is often portrayed with a watch if the writers intend to make him sympathetic in the sense that he has a sense of self, life direction, and is doing something with his time.

From movies made in the last twenty years to modern television, we are seeing more and more male characters wearing jewelry. It is no longer limited to musical giants like Billy Idol or characters like Bender from The Breakfast Club, wearing a single stud earring in typical rock ‘n’ roll fashion. Even CW’s Supernatural features a character who wears a lot of jewelry - Dean Winchester is seen sporting protective necklaces and bracelets for most of the series first five seasons, all of which have become extremely important to the characters portrayed in fan-art. Mens jewelry is a trend that has been appearing more and more in popular culture in the past twenty or so years and is only growing in influence.
